    Hannah Kempfer, in 1936, and Beth Monke, who will portray Kempfer in an original drama on July 12, 2 p.m., in downtown Pelican Rapids. Hannah Kempfer represented the Pelican-Fergus Falls-Maplewood area as one of the state’s first woman legislators.  
By a quirk of history, Beth Monke served the Tonseth Lutheran Church the past year as an interim pastor—the rural Tonseth church is right in Kempfer’s “hometown” of Edwards. The two women have something of a connection, despite the span of nearly a century. Kempfer died in 1943, long before Monke was born. Kempfer is buried in the Tonseth Lutheran church cemetery.
