Who will be the next mayor or city council members? How about your local school board? The process begins in mid-July, as filings for city offices open officially July 14—and close July 28. These dates apply to nearly all Minnesota cities—including Pelican Rapids, Erhard, Vergas, and other lakes area municipalities.

In Pelican, Mayor Brent Frazier’s seat will be open for filing. City council seats include two presently held by Curt Markgraf and Steve Strand.
Three seats are up for the Pelican school board, and filings at the district office are from July 14 to July 28.
Mayor seats are for two years, and most council seats are four-year terms. See the public notice page this week for details on Pelican City filings.
Some townships also hold elections with the November general election. Area school board elections will also be on the November ballot.
