Patricia "Pat" Marie Svare passed away on July 1, 2025 at Sanford Hospice House after a battle with cancer.
Patricia Marie Neu was born on March 22, 1959 to Earl Charles Neu and Beverly Ann Tye in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. She spent her childhood on a farm outside of Pelican Rapids helping her dad with chores, being involved in the local FFA chapter, and making many memorable moments with her friends and family on horseback down twelve lake road.
Pat received two associates degrees from M. State. She married Larry Svare at Central Lutheran church in 1979. Of that union came two sons, David and Peter, both of whom she was very proud. During her adult life Pat worked various jobs; however, she was most proud of her black light room work.
In recent years, Pat resided in Pelican Kapids, Minnesota and Barnesville, Minnesota Where she spent time gardening, appreciating and creating art, rock hunting for gemstones and agates, selling krumkake at Christmas time, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to see shows at Chanhassen and was involved in many local charitable works, including leading an Alcoholics Anonymous Chapter in Barnesville and bringing her dog, Jake, to the local nursing home to bring joy to residents. However, her favorite thing to do was spend time with her siblings, sons, and grandchildren.
Pat was diagnosed with stage 3b cancer in 2016 and went into remission. However, in 2021, cancer was again discovered. After more treatment, Pat re-entered remission. As Pat said, "I was given more years than anyone thought possible, and I am a stubborn old bag." Pat brought joy, spunk, a thirst for life, and a desire to converse with everyone she interacted with. Pat spent her last moments with friends and family, a gift everyone wishes they could have. She received the best possible care at Sanford Hospice House.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Beverly, sister, Betty, and her horse, Flicka.
Pat leaves behind her two sons, David (Suzanne) Svare, and Peter (Kelsey) Svare, grandchildren, Emilee and Leonidas, brother Mark (Karen) Neu, sister Mary Thompson, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends and her dog, Jake, who was the best dog she could have asked for.
A celebration of life or "her party per Pat" will be held July 10th, 2025 at Central Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota (38953 Co Hwy 3, Pelican Rapids, MN, 56572) with a visitation starting at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am with a meal to follow. Pat requested casual dress with shoes optional. Pat made the decision to donate her body to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in order for future students to learn, hence no committal service will be held at this time.
