Miriam Lundin

Miriam "Snella" Naomi Lundin (Hoplin) was born on August 30, 1928, in Starbuck, MN, the daughter of Ole and Esther Hoplin. On August 26, 1951, she married Lynn Lundin at St. Pauli Church in Lowry, MN. The couple resided in Columbia Heights, MN from 1956 to 1999. In 1999, they moved to Pelican Rapids, MN. Miriam was a member of Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, MN and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. She graduated from Glenwood High School, and went on to attend Augsburg College, where she graduated in 1950. She worked at St. Benedicts as a Physical Education teacher, pre-school teacher at Salem Covenant church and receptionist at Dain Bosworth in downtown Minneapolis. Inducted into the Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. She was an extraordinary homemaker, impacting many as her home was where the neighborhood kids came to play.
Miriam's friends and family called her "Snella," which is the Swedish word for kind, a nickname Carl Nelson, her Swedish grandfather, gave her as a girl. She enjoyed reading scripture, root beer barrel candies, feeding hummingbirds, church circles, and all things Scandinavian. She also shared a passion with her husband about Minnesota state parks, having coffee in the car and enjoying the beautiful views our parks have to offer.
Miriam Lundin, age 96, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Pelican Valley Senior Living.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ole and Esther Hoplin; brothers, Oliver (Dorothy), Donald (Doris), Glen (Ruth), and Paul Hoplin; Ruth (Gerald) Huettl and Elise (James) Anderson; husband, Lynn Lundin; daughter-in-law, Louise Sasso-Lundin.
Miriam is survived by her five children: Phil (Sue Bruen) Lundin of Apple Valley, MN; Joel (Joelle) Lundin of Monticello, MN; Paul (Donna) Lundin of Herbster, WI; Peter Sasso-Lundin of Pelican Rapids, MN; and Ann (Don) Lundin-Hurley of Dent, MN; eight grandchildren: Dan, Teresa, Kaia, Britta, Phil, Meghan, Michael, and Keeghan; and eight great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Muriel Hoplin, and along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids on June 28th, 2025 Visitation 10:00- 11:00 a.m. with 11:00 Service and lunch/fellowship to follow. She will be cremated and buried with her husband, Lynn, at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
